Michael Stipe is caught in the charged concentration of a live performance, framed at a scale that keeps the moment immediate. Dave Hogan photographed the R.E.M. singer at London's Brixton Academy on June 24, 2003, and this Sonic Editions print is numbered 001 of 495—an unmistakable identifier within the closed edition. A certificate of authenticity accompanies it. Hogan's four decades as a major music photographer give the image a professional provenance beyond ordinary concert memorabilia: a known eye, a named venue, a specific night, and a precisely identified print.
