"San Ildefonso" rises with a tall, assured presence, its 42-inch height giving the hand-pulled image an architectural rhythm. Amado Peña signed and embossed the serigraph and numbered it 3 of only 40—an unusually contained edition, with this low number identifying the exact place of the sheet within the run. Born in 1943 and of Mexican and Yaqui heritage, Peña became a leading figure in Chicano printmaking, bringing the people and landscapes of the Southwest into a layered visual language of cultural memory. At 30.5 inches wide and nearly fifteen pounds framed, the work has both physical and historical weight, yet its composition remains composed rather than imposing. The signature, embossing, and number are part of the pleasure of this exact piece.
