Raised texture catches the light across these two girls and their flowers, giving the wood-mounted images a dimensional quality that flat paper prints do not carry. Both bear Ted DeGrazia signatures, though whether those signatures are pencil-applied or part of the plate remains unconfirmed. DeGrazia, the Arizona artist behind the Gallery of the Sun, gave Southwest childhood an instantly recognizable visual language and brought it to an international audience through widely reproduced images. Here, the intimate 8.5-by-10.75-inch scale keeps that language personal. More importantly, the two have remained together, and their shared subject creates an easy rhythm that one alone could not. They ask for no grand gesture—only close, companionable placement.
