Doug Wylie 2017 Whale Tail Goblets with Green Rim, Set of Three

Each vessel rises from a whale tail, the sculpted base drawing the eye upward to a fine green rim. Doug Wylie made the three glazed ceramic goblets in 2017, returning to the marine form that has long defined his studio work's coastal language. At approximately 6.75 inches high, each piece balances a 3.5-inch base with a 3-inch lip; together, the repeated tails create a small procession and a stronger sculptural rhythm than any single goblet could hold. Function and subject are inseparable here—the whale does not decorate the vessel but becomes the structure that supports it.
