The five-inch open form has the scale of a measured first course, a small bowl that leaves room for the rest of the table. Made by Homer Laughlin in American porcelain from approximately 1970 to 1987, it belongs to the Golden Harvest pattern and reflects the warm, informal spirit of that period's domestic ware. A small photographed chip marks the bowl, honest evidence of use; otherwise it remains in excellent condition. It can return to the larger Golden Harvest service, but its life need not stop at soup: the low shape is equally good for nuts, fruit, or a modest dessert.
