Ten dinner plates and ten salad plates create a calm, repeated rhythm—the visual assurance of a table in which every place belongs. Royal Doulton made this Coronet service in England between approximately 1957 and 1979, and the H4947 pattern code identifies the group precisely within the Staffordshire company's long history. The service is pared to the two plates used most often, making its completeness practical rather than ceremonial: twenty pieces, evenly divided, ready for a table of ten. The years sit lightly on porcelain meant for gatherings. What distinguishes the group is not excess but continuity, the same scale and pattern returning from one place to the next.
