A forest interior painted directly onto wood—the medium itself carries warmth. Grain rises quietly through the oil in places, giving the surface an earthen quality that canvas could never quite replicate. Signed Vitatis and dating to the 1970s–1980s, the original painting has a generous 24-by-20-inch presence without feeling oversized. The artist's fuller identity has been lost, but the signature remains, as does the particular dialogue between pigment and panel that makes this piece feel so grounded- there is a shimmer effect as if a mineral was ground into the original composition. Some wear runs along the wood edges, consistent with age and entirely at home with the painting's natural material. In angled light, the board becomes part of the image rather than a hidden support, rewarding the kind of close look that reveals how the work was made.
